Weekly Photo Challenge: Ocean

This weeks theme for the photo challenge is ocean. It just so happens that last year I went to Bordeaux and we also visited the beach there. Not in Bordeaux itself obviously but we went to Cap Ferret, if I remember correctly, and had a great day on the beach in early May. The weather was lovely and since it wasn’t really swimming season yet there were not at all many people! I took quite some pictures there and decided to use one of these for the weekly photo challenge.

Ocean inside

I’ve got an ocean in my room.

I could only wish to have a home like this...

Yes, that’s right. Don’t worry, there’s nothing wrong with your reading abilities. There a small pool of water in my room. Of course the title is exaggerating everything but hey, I’ve got to get your attention in some way right.

Anyway, about the pool. I’m trying to defrost my fridge, or the freezer compartment of it to be more specific. Well, I can tell you, it’s working. I’ve shut down the power of the fridge and put a bowl of hot water in the freezer compartment and now water is running out. And it doesn’t seem to stop. It’s kinda scary how much water can come out of such a small fridge. I never knew that! I keep mopping the floor every five minutes. A delightful task which has kept me busy for about four hours now and I’m kinda tired of it. Also, I want to go to bed soon.

I think I’ll just plug in the fridge again and let it be. I have absolutely no clue on how to do this defrosting stuff without creating a flood in my room. And I kinda want to get out of bed tomorrow and still keep my feet dry. I really don’t know what else to do. Do you have any idea on how to defrost a fridge/freezer without water flowing everywhere? It should be possible right? Am I really this stupid for not knowing?

Well, I’m gonna mop it all up one more time and then I’m off to bed. Good night fellas!

Five favourites: TV shows

It’s about time for another one of my five favourites. I promised you to post one each week and so far I’ve done only one and that was four weeks ago. This time it’s all about TV. I’m gonna share with you my five favourite TVshows. This one is pretty hard though, there are so many! There is Desperate Housewives, Grey’s Anatomy, Gossip Girl, Sex and the City, How I Met Your Mother, the Big Bang Theory and I could go on like this for quite a while. I’m gonna give it a try. My five favourite TV shows are, in no particular order:

  1. Sex and the City. I guess all of you know what it is about. Those who don’t: shame on you! I envy Carries shoe collection so very much, I would be SO grateful to even have a very small part of it! Guess all of you girls out there agree with me here.
  2. Gossip Girl. I’ve read the books before the show was even broadcasted and I loved it! The TV show is great as well. It’s about teenagers living in the upper east side of New York and their problems, involving of course jealousy and social status.
  3. The Big Bang Theory. Like I said before, I’m a bit of a nerd, which is why I like this show. It’s about four scientists and their (lack of) social skills.
  4. Lipstick Jungle. Great show from the makers of Sex and the City about three women with a successful career. I’d say watch is some time and you’ll see!
  5. Misstresses. Brittish show that follows the lives of four women. They deal with all the classic problems, adultery, work problems, and single motherhood. Great story!

So, that’s it for now, I’m gonna watch Private Practice. Catch you later!

Weekly Photo Challenge: Spring

Each week, WordPress provides us with a theme for a photo challenge in which we can take part if we want to. Today I’ve decided I will start this challenge. As of this week I’ll enlighten your day with a photo taken by me. In this way I hope to improve my photography skills, which you’ll see are sort of non existing at the moment. I hope I can find a nice scene fitting the theme each week but I’ll be sure to try my best, I promise!

This weeks theme is Spring. Spring has come to my house! Yesterday I told you about the great day on the beach I had with my boyfriend to celebrate our being together for 1,5 years. When we got home he had a present waiting for me, he bought flowers! I’ve never been given flowers before by someone and I love them! Also they make a great picture for this weeks photo challenge so here they are!

I’m an award winning blogger!

Yay! Applause for me please! I won the Versatile Blogger award today! It was given to me by d@rk_@ngel_kn!ght, for which I am very thankful.

The rules of this thing are as follows:

1. Thank the person who awarded you and link back to them in your post.
2. Tell 7 Random facts about yourself.
3. Pass the award on to 15 new found bloggers.
4. Contact each blogger you want to pass the award on to and let them know you’ve done so, and let the giver of your award know you accept it... or not.

You may follow or modify the rules.

I already did the first one above so it’s on to the second rule. 7 Random facts about me… let me see.

  1. I talk a lot, and I mean really a lot. Sometimes I just don’t know how to shut up. It’s that bad that people used to ask my mother if she never got tired of me talking all the time when I was young.
  2. I’m addicted to tv shows. I seldom watch other things on tv but I spend quite some hours watching Desperate Housewives, Grey’s Anatomy, Gossip Girl and so on. I love it! Just sit and watch, no thinking of any kind involved here. You should try it really, it’s great!
  3. I’m really lazy usually. Sometimes it gets so bad that I’m too lazy to get off the couch at night to go to bed. Which is another thing I love by the way, sleeping. Waking up in the morning, not having to get out of bed to do anything… best feeling ever!
  4. I can’t go to a book store and not buy anything. I just can’t, it’s impossible. There’s always so many books I would want to read. Right now, I’m reading two books at the same time and there’s still seven unread ones waiting for me. Last sunday I wen’t to the book store and I knew I had so many still waiting for me so instead I bought a cookbook.
  5. I’m a bit of a nerd. Today at work my collegue showed me this image:
and I thought it was funny, really. Not sure whether I should have shared this fact with the world…

Nerdy joke, credits go to http://www.piccaz.com

  6. I’ve never been outside of Europe in my life. I want to, I really do but it just hasn’t happened yet. Good thing I’m still young and will earn lots of money soon!
  7. I’m boring. I can’t come up with a seventh random fact about myself. This simply must mean I’m boring, so there you have it.

So, now on to the next rule: passing on the award to 15 other bloggers. I haven’t checked whether any of these have won it before already so my apologies if I’m handing out double awards. This just means you’re super awesome! So here they are:

Jackie

Anne Potter

Leeswammes

Andrea Rodgers

Rtcrita

Hippie Cahier

Leslie Lewis

Blockader

Lost in England

My Blue Screen

Stacey Archer

Must Be a Goddes

The Redneck Princess

Other Awesome Things

Lynsey May

So I guess that’s it. I don’t think I’ve spent this much time on writing a post before. Never thought it would be so hard to write seven things about myself. Thanks again to d@rk_@ngel_kn!ght for awarding me!

The Hague and the beach

Last weekend my boyfriend and me celebrated being together for 1,5 years. I know, that a LONG time, right? Actually, putting it in perspective I hope it’s a really short time. That would mean we would be together for a very long time still and I would love that, obviously.

Binnenhof The Hague

Anyway, back to the celebration. We decided to go to The Hague, since I’ve never been there and always wanted to see it. My boyfriend has spent quite some time there in his youth since his father was living there, so he could show me around. All I had to do was enjoy the great weather, city and lovely company. I didn’t have to worry about getting lost in the “big city” as I would have, had I been there on my own.

It was a lovely day with lots of sun. Perfect for a walk on the beach so that’s what we did. We set off for Scheveningen and had a nice walk. After which we enjoyed a beer on the boulevard. An expensive beer that is. If I would have known we would have to pay 11 euros for two beers (!) I might not have had one. I mean, I knew it would be more expensive than a beer in a regular bar but 11 euros, seriously? Those people are crazy! Apart from this, it was a nice place. They had very comfortable benches outside and we could catch quite some sun on them. So we sat back and relaxed a little, payed our huge bill and took off for a last walk and dinner!

Enjoying (very expensive) beers in the sun

We had dinner at the Crazy Pianos bar, which was great. The food there is really good and there is live music during and after dinner. Two people play the piano and sing all kinds of popular songs. You can put in your own request and they might even play it (whoah)! Great place which I would recommend everyone to visit.

As you can see, we had the best day in The Hague and Scheveningen. A great way to celebrate our anniversary, may many more follow!

Rokjesdag

I think today is “Rokjesdag” a.k.a. “skirts day”. Rokjesdag is invented by Martin Bril, a Dutch writer. It is the first day of the year where the weather is nice and all women start wearing skirts. It’s like magic, like they all decided together to wear a skirt this day. I think it’s a great day, and I guess most men agree with me here ;)

Rokjesdag! Click link for source

Of course I can’t be sure it really is rokjesdag, being in computer science and all. Guys just don’t wear skirts that often!

Ok, so it’s rokjesdag. Now I’ve got a huge problem, I’m wearing jeans today! I love skirts, got them in all kinds and colours.  I really don’t know why I didn’t think of wearing one this morning but now it feels like I’m oblivious to the fact that the weather is great today. I feel like one of those girls who just don’t get it, and I’m trying really hard to make up for this by posting about it here. Of course that’s cheating a little because it’s already the end of the afternoon here but I swear I thought of it this morning!

I’m kinda sad I didn’t decide to wear a skirt today because it’s a beautiful day. And still, I’m inside all day, first at work and now at home writing this blog post. I really should get my ass out of the house. But then again, where would I go? I have no garden or balcony of any kind to go sit on and enjoy the weather. I guess for me it will just be the couch and the view of my beautiful tulips to remind me spring is coming!

Nail polish disaster

I’m a disaster when it comes to nail polish. I absolutely love nail polish and I’ve all kinds of colours to decorate my hands with. It’s just that I think nail polish doesn’t love me back. Every time I decide to put on some, there’s just something else that needs to be done right after I finished the last layer. Result: nail polish ruined!

In those rare moments it does work for me in the way I wanted it to, it takes me up to a day to still ruin everything. This all makes me wonder, how do people do this? Is nail polish just meant for the princesses amongst us? Only for those people who can sit around all day and never have to do dishes or clean the bathroom? Who lives these kinds of lives? I don’t, that’s one thing that’s for sure!

So today I’ve decided to put on a layer of nail polish, then watch an episode of sex and the city, which takes half an hour so that should be enough for it to dry. Then put on another layer and watch another episode! So far so good, let’s see how long this one will last.

What about you, does this happen to you as well? If not, some advice on how to overcome this problem is most welcome! Oh, and please, please, please don’t tell me buying the expensive stuff will help. I probably will but it would also make me very unhappy since then I would have to go through life with only one colour of nail polish for al long long time.

Hide and seek: creativity

I would like to think that I’m really very creative but the truth is, I’m not. My mom is, she always comes up with great ideas and all. I can’t even design a nice look for my blog. Let’s be honest, the one I have now isn’t really that great. In fact, I think it’s kinda ugly but well. I’m also always very judgemental on what I do.

I’ve been trying to come up with a new design here but so far it didn’t get me much further than installing several themes WordPress offers and looking at them. My conclusion: I need a nice picture to go on it. Unfortunately I’m not at all a good photographer and even if I was, I have no clue whatsoever on what I want in my picture. I guess we’ll have to stick with this not-so-very-nice design for a little while longer until I figure it out and then, just maybe I manage to take this nice picture, play around with photoshop a little to adapt it to my wishes and finally show it on my (again) new blog design!

Vacuum cleaners

I need a new vacuum cleaner. My old one sucks, or better said, it doesn’t. That’s his problem. I shouldn’t complain about this really because I happen to have found it here in my house, along with a fan and some other random things. I live in a student room so when my neighbour moved out of the house I’ve decided that everything that was still there was mine since there’s nobody else living here. Some things are useful (like the fan) and others are less useful (the crappy vacuum cleaner).

So, back to the vacuum cleaner. I’ve decided I’ve had enough of this stupid thing and so I’ll buy a new one. Last night I’ve been browsing the internet in search of one and I found a really cute one! Yes I like to have a vacuum cleaner that not only works but also looks cute, and I managed! At least on the cute part, we’ll see if it works later on. Anyway: here it is:

Isn’t he the cutest? So, vacuum cleaner found, problem solved! That’s what I thought. So I went to bed.

I woke up in the middle of the night with the feeling I hadn’t really slept at all and my mind was full with vacuum cleaner. Seems like I’ve been dreaming about the stupid thing! I don’t want my nice dreams to be disturbed by vacuum cleaners. I mean, he’s cute but it’s not as if I’m going to like vacuuming all of a sudden. He’s not THAT cute. I think the two of us have started off at the wrong foot somehow. Let’s see if we can make it up to each other after he arrives.
